Game On: Latest in Gaming News, Reviews & Industry Buzz

Undertale has officially turned 10 years old, and Toby Fox is celebrating with a host of announcements and streams over the next week.

To start off, Toby Fox is planning a special 10-year anniversary stream over two days, from 4 pm PT on September 20 and 21, where he will play Undertale and interact with his fans while playing. He will be streaming the game on a special website dedicated to the 10th anniversary, which you can find here.

Half the game will be played on one day, while the second half will be played on the other so that you can tune in on both days for Undertale fun!

Furthermore, Toby has used this chance to update fans about the progress of Deltarune Chapter 5, well… sorta. There’s a small image of a spoiler for Castle Town we won’t dive into for those who haven’t finished Chapter 4 yet and don’t want to be spoiled, but there are some updates regarding the next chapter of the hit indie title.

The full notes Toby has provided include the following.

    AREAS

    • The early parts of Chapter 5 are complete but need polishing.
    • Maybe the last 40%-or-so of the game is in a “rough first pass” state, and the last 10% is in a “prototyping” state.
    • Approximately 85% of cutscenes have been created up to a first draft stage; however, at least 20% of those will require further refinement.

    ENEMIES

    • Regular enemies are mostly done. One programmer is already working on the regular enemy bullet patterns of Chapter 6.
    • The direction of the boss battles has been decided, and many boss attacks have already been completed.
    • Once the attacks are complete, the next goal will be to refine them and make adjustments as necessary to suit the battle’s atmosphere.

There are currently no deadlines planned for when Chapter 5 will be published, although Toby has indicated that he wants to begin translation by the end of 2025. When factoring that in, Toby has mentioned not to expect the game to release in the first half of 2026, with where the chapter currently is at.

In usual Toby fashion, he said he will release it when it’s done. So don’t expect any Chapter 5 release news for quite some time.

Lastly, Toby touched on his involvement with the new Homestuck animation and how he got involved with the project. There is a lot to digest there, so worth giving it a read on the official release! Oh, and there is new Deltatrune merch of Mr. Tenna available too, so RIP our wallets.
