Legendary singer-songwriter and Hall & Oates co-founder Daryl Hall is recovering after undergoing a successful kidney transplant, and he’s already looking ahead to getting back to music.
The 79-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer revealed the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, sharing that he recently received a kidney from a living donor.
“Hi everybody! I thought you should know that I recently received a kidney transplant from a very kind and generous living donor,” Hall wrote. “It happened a couple of weeks ago, and I’m already starting to feel better. It was, according to my doctors, a complete success!”
Hall expressed gratitude for the donor and optimism about his recovery, adding that he expects to return to normal activities within a few months.
“I should be back to normal in a few months, so get ready for more music and lots of Daryl’s House shows. You all take care.”
A living kidney donation occurs when a healthy person donates one of their two kidneys while still alive. According to medical experts, living-donor transplants often provide excellent outcomes for recipients and can significantly improve quality of life.
The health update marks another chapter in Hall’s journey after previously battling Lyme disease, which he has described as one of the most difficult experiences of his life.
Hall rose to international fame as one half of the iconic duo Hall & Oates alongside John Oates. The pair dominated the charts throughout the 1970s and 1980s with classics including “Rich Girl,” “Maneater,” “You Make My Dreams,” “Private Eyes,” “Kiss on My List,” and “Out of Touch.”
Their contributions to music earned them induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. They also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2016 and were inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2023.
Although Hall and Oates officially parted ways in 2023 and later settled a lengthy legal dispute over publishing rights in 2025, Hall has continued performing and recording as a solo artist. His latest single, “Bring It On Home,” was released in May, and he continues to produce episodes of his popular web series, Live From Daryl’s House, which has featured notable guests such as Todd Rundgren, Joe Walsh, Billy Gibbons, and Sammy Hagar.
For now, fans can take comfort in knowing that Hall’s recovery is progressing well and that more music appears to be on the horizon.
