What type of season will Dak Prescott have for the Dallas Cowboys? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The 2025 season for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is quickly becoming one of the most critical of his career.

After yet another injury that made it just twice in the last five years Prescott has played a full season, coupled with having George Pickens alongside CeeDee Lamb, an offensive line with three first-round picks and an improved run game (we think), there are plenty of tools at Dak’s disposal … if he can stay healthy.

Under Brian Schottenheimer, can he bring it all together? For Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame, in his quarterback rankings, which predict where quarterbacks will finish the year, Dak comes in at No. 16.

So an average season is coming for Dak.

“Two years ago, Prescott was the MVP runner-up to Lamar Jackson while leading the NFL with 36 touchdown passes,” Verderame writes. “Last season, he played eight games before tearing his hamstring and threw for only 1,978 yards and 11 touchdowns with eight interceptions.

“Time is ticking for Prescott, who will turn 32 on July 29. The talent around Prescott is reasonably deep, but there’s also a new head coach in Brian Schottenheimer after his promotion from offensive coordinator. For Prescott, a middling season could lead to an ugly winter. If the Cowboys struggle offensively this season, there will be plenty of screaming about his contract being an albatross.”

While there will be no moving on from Prescott after the 2025 season, regardless of how it goes due to his contract, Dak will have two years (2025 and 2026) to get something done, i.e., Super Bowl-wise, but this upcoming season feels like gut-check time for Dak.

Can he stay healthy? Can he lead this offense, which has some nice weapons and a play-caller who will be looking to ease the pressure on his shoulders by running the football?

We think yes, but there are a lot of ifs when it comes to Prescott and success entering the new season, but whether we are looking at it in a glass-half-full mindset, Dak might just bounce back in the biggest way in 2025.

Or he won’t.
