From Hollywood to Home: Black Voices in Entertainment

Although Peacock doesn’t always have blockbusters to choose from, it can occasionally surprise subscribers with movies that slipped through the cracks in theaters.

While there are plenty of forgettable flicks among their number, Peacock also has some genuine diamonds in the rough that deserve to be rediscovered.

That’s why the Watch With Us team has put together this list of three underrated Peacock movies to watch this weekend.

Our picks include a super-powered thriller, a classic comedy and a film that offers a fresh take on an old sci-fi trope.

July is prime movie-watching time for most people, and Peacock has plenty of films for you to binge all summer long. The streamer added a ton of great movies this month, from classics like Forrest Gump with Tom Hanks to modern hits like Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller. Thank You! You have successfully subscribed. ‘Freaks’ (2018)

You’ll definitely see some comic-book influences in Freaks, as well as a little bit of Stephen King’s Firestarter. Lexy Kolker stars as a seven-year-old girl named Chloe Lewis who has never left her house. Chloe’s father, Henry Lewis (Emile Hirsch), says he’s protecting her from people who want to hurt her or take her away.

After an enigmatic stranger, Mr. Snowcone (Bruce Dern), intervenes, Chloe learns that her father was right all along. There are bad people who are after them just because they have powers and abilities beyond normal humans. Chloe also discovers that her telepathic gift may even be able to reunite her with her long-lost mother, Mary Lewis (Amanda Crew).

Freaks is streaming on Peacock.

‘American Pie’ (1999)

American Pie was a pretty wild teenage sex comedy for 1999. Times have changed a lot in the last 26 years, but it’s still a funny movie to revisit. The story revolves around four high school seniors who resolve to lose their virginity on or before their prom night. Chris “Oz” Ostreicher (Chris Klein), Kevin Myers (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) have some promising starts. However, their friend, Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs), isn’t so lucky.

Related: 3 New Peacock Movies with Over 90 Percent on Rotten Tomatoes (July 2025)

It’s hard to know which movies are worth your time. One useful way to sift through garbage is Rotten Tomatoes, which aggregates critical reviews and assigns each movie and TV show a score. That helps when streamers like Peacock add tons of new movies to their libraries each month. This July, Peacock has added three […]

Jim has a real talent for getting himself in really humiliating situations, especially during his encounter with an exchange student, Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth). All four of the guys have to face questions about what they really want out of a relationship, and it may not be what they originally desired.

A boating trip takes a wrong turn for a woman named Jess (Melissa George) in Triangle. After taking the chance to temporarily leave her responsibilities as a mother behind, Jess joins Greg (Michael Dorman) and the rest of their friends on a brief excursion to the sea.

When Greg’s ship is overturned by a storm, the survivors gather on an abandoned ocean liner. Soon, Jess realizes that someone is stalking and attempting to kill her friends. More alarmingly, Jess’ friends claim that she’s the killer. And once Jess realizes what’s really happening, there may not be an escape for any of them.
