If you love blueberries or are simply looking for more delicious recipes for summer entertaining, this refreshing cocktail is the perfect summer drink to try out. This blueberry vodka lemonade was inspired by a leftover batch of blueberry mint syrup I had after making my favorite blueberry mint margarita recipe.

All you need to whip up this vodka cocktail is your favorite vodka, fresh lemons, frozen blueberries, sugar, and a few mint sprigs. I’ve tried a lot of flavored lemonade variations, but something about the combination of blueberries and lemon is just perfection. This blueberry lemonade cocktail is vibrant, easy to make, and bursting with fresh flavors.

One of the things I love most about cocktail recipes like this one is that there are plenty of ways to switch things up depending on your mood and what you have at home. For instance, you could easily swap out frozen blueberries for fresh blueberries in the blueberry mixture to make your simple syrup. You could also swap lemon juice for lime juice to make a refreshing blueberry limeade. The options are pretty much endless.

Whether you’re gearing up for a cookout with neighbors or a pool party with friends, this quintessential summer cocktail guarantees to satisfy a crowd. If you plan on having kids in attendance, you could easily make a pitcher without vodka for a delicious blueberry lemonade mocktail. Get ready for your new favorite summer drink!

    Blueberry Lemonade Key Ingredients

Let’s break down the key ingredients you’ll need to make this blueberry vodka lemonade recipe.

    Frozen Blueberries

Using frozen blueberries ensures you can make this cocktail any time of the year. I always recommend opting for organic because it offers a better flavor, and conventionally grown blueberries are saturated with pesticide chemicals. Feel free to use fresh blueberries if you prefer.

    Lemons

I grew up enjoying fresh-squeezed lemonade, so there’s nothing you could say that would make me choose store-bought lemonade over the real thing. If you want the best lemonade, you’ve got to use the freshest ingredients.

    Sugar

Sugar does more than sweeten lemonade, it balances the sharp acidity from the lemons and rounds out the drink so every sip tastes smooth and refreshing. White granulated sugar gives you a clean, classic lemonade flavor, while raw cane sugar adds a light molasses note that brings a little more depth and warmth.

    Fresh Mint

Fresh mint adds a cooling pop of flavor that makes lemonade taste even more refreshing. A little goes a long way, so gently muddle or bruise the leaves to release their natural oils without making the drink taste bitter.

    Vodka

You can use any kind of plain vodka you like to make this blueberry lemonade. I’ve tried this recipe with bottom-shelf, mid-shelf, and top-shelf vodka—all of them have turned out great. Just use your favorite brand!

How To Make Blueberry Vodka Lemonade

This easy vodka lemonade recipe can be divided into two components: making the blueberry syrup and making the lemonade. Be sure to check out the recipe card below for the full recipe and exact measurements.

How To Make Blueberry Mint Syrup

Heat a medium pot over medium heat and add blueberries, mint, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil, then remove from the heat.

Add to a food blender and blitz on high for 30 seconds or until smooth. Then, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl and add it back to the pot. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes.

    Blueberry Vodka Lemonade Recipe

In a gallon pitcher, stir the ice, lemon juice, vodka, remaining water, and blueberry mint syrup. Cover and place in the refrigerator or serve immediately over a glass filled with ice, a few blueberries, and a sprig of mint.

To serve, pour in a mason jar or glass and garnish with lemon slices, fresh blueberries and a sprig of fresh mint.

    Pro Recipe Tips and Tricks

Here are some of my top tips to help you make the best blueberry lemonade cocktail:

    • For the best-tasting blueberry vodka lemonade, make your own blueberry simple syrup. It takes a little more effort than simply adding sugar, but the end result is beyond worth it.
    • If you’re pressed for time, you could try using a blueberry-flavored vodka and regular store-bought lemonade, but you’ll be sacrificing tons of flavor.
    • Try using lemon-flavored vodka like Deep Eddy for an extra tart flavor.
    • I highly recommend juicing your own lemons and not substituting them for store-bought lemonade. Those tend to come loaded with sugar, which would make the result overly sweet once you’ve added in the blueberry simple syrup.
    • For an eye-catching summer cocktail, save a few mint sprigs and blueberries for the garnish.
    • Try adding a splash of sparkling water or club soda for a sparkling lemonade cocktail.

    Blueberry Vodka Lemonade FAQs

Here are some of the most popular questions about this blueberry vodka lemonade cocktail recipe:

What can I use instead of blueberry simple syrup?

The beautiful thing about making a flavored simple syrup from scratch is that you can choose any flavor you want. If you want to try something other than blueberries, try using strawberries, mangos, lavender, or mint. You could also use a store-bought simple syrup to make things easier.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Absolutely. You can make a blueberry vodka lemonade pitcher up to 2 days in advance and store it in the fridge covered until you’re ready to serve. Simply stir before serving and wait to add ice until you serve the cocktail; otherwise, you’ll wind up watering it down. You can store your leftover lemonade in the fridge for up to 7 days.

    Can I make this non-alcoholic?

Yes! All you have to do is swap out the vodka to make this a mocktail. To avoid an overly sweet mocktail, I recommend adding equal parts water, sparkling water, or club soda instead of vodka. You can add a little at a time and taste as you go until you get the ideal sweetness level for your taste buds.
