HAWKINS, Texas — Jarvis Christian University continues to advance its mission of expanding educational opportunity through a partnership with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) that enables students in TJJD facilities to earn college credit while preparing for future academic and professional success.

This spring, 21 students successfully completed and passed ENG 1301 English Composition, earning college credit through Jarvis Christian University. The accomplishment reflects the students’ commitment to their education and demonstrates the transformative power of access to higher learning.

As one of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities, Jarvis Christian University has long believed that education serves as a pathway to opportunity, personal growth, and community impact. Through partnerships such as this one, the university seeks to make quality higher education accessible to learners from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences.

“At Jarvis Christian University, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to discover their potential and pursue a brighter future through education,” said Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt, Ph.D., 13th President & CEO of Jarvis Christian University. “We are proud to partner with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department in creating pathways that encourage academic achievement, personal responsibility, and lifelong learning.”

The partnership provides students with the opportunity to engage in college-level coursework while developing critical thinking, communication, and writing skills that will serve them in future educational and career pursuits. Successful completion of English Composition represents an important milestone and demonstrates that, when provided with meaningful support and opportunity, students can rise to meet high academic expectations.

Jarvis Christian University remains committed to fostering educational access and supporting initiatives that promote student success, workforce readiness, and community transformation throughout Texas and beyond.

The university congratulates the students who completed the course and recognizes the educators, administrators, and TJJD staff members whose collaboration helped make this achievement possible.
