Residents Invited to Share Personal Memories, Stories During Community ‘Your Savannah Story’ Project Drop-Ins

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah Municipal Archives Department is continuing its effort to preserve local history through the YOUR Savannah Story campaign, part of the Savannah Community Memory Project, which invites residents to share their personal stories, photographs, and memories of life in Savannah. Attached photos were contributed during the campaign’s first Memory Collection Drop-In Day in May. The next opportunity to participate will be Wednesday, July 8, as Archives continues collecting community stories and historical materials for future generations.

Memory Collection Drop-In Day will take place Wednesday, July 8, 10:00am – 4:00pm, in the Archives & History Room at City Hall. Residents are encouraged to bring photographs, postcards, building plans, scrapbooks, newsletters, and other keepsakes that reflect Savannah’s history and community life. Items will be scanned and returned on-site. Participants may also choose to share their memories on camera or take part in a traditional oral history interview.

Municipal Archives is especially interested in stories and materials related to Savannah’s neighborhoods, landmarks, community events, local leaders, and food traditions. If unable to attend in-person, please visit the Share Your Story portal at www.Savannahga.gov/YourHistory. Remaining drop-in dates and times are October 8, 9:00am – 2:00pm; and December 8, 10:00am – 4:00pm.

Please email Archives@Savannahga.gov  to reserve a spot or ask questions. You may also call 912-651-4212.
