Despite the challenges in the African medical sector, students from these schools work worldwide after receiving good training during their years. Here are the best medical schools to consider.

University of Cape Town

The University of Cape Town has the best medical school in Africa, according to EduRank. This university is funded through a public-private partnership. When it comes to research, it has about 95,695 scientific papers published and 2,920,600 citations received. The research covers Biology, Medicine, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Political Science, and Geography and Cartography.

University of the Witwatersrand

The University of the Witwatersrand comes third in the list of the best medical schools in Africa. With a 34% acceptance rate, the school is funded through private-public partnerships, with the highest degree offered being a doctorate.

Regarding research, it has 83,673 scientific papers published and 2,021,576 citations received. Its focus is on Biology, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, Medicine, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Sociology, Computer Science, and Political Science.

University of Stellenbosch

The University of Stellenbosch is a non-profit organisation that’s funded through private-public partnerships, with a doctorate being the highest degree conferred. It has a 52% acceptance rate and teaches in Afrikaans and English. It has about 69,594 scientific papers published and 1,618,799 citations received. The research covers fields such as Biology, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, and Environmental Science.

Cairo University ranks second in the best medical schools in Africa. It has a 90% acceptance rate, an enrollment of 207,853. It’s a non-profit institution funded through private-public partnerships. The highest degree it offers is a doctorate and teaches in Arabic, English and French.

When it comes to research, it has about 99,760 scientific papers published and 1,391,000 citations received. Its focus of research is in Biology, Medicine, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Environmental Science, Genetics, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Computer Science.

Makerere University

Makerere University is one of the best medical schools in Africa.  It has a 50% acceptance rate with an enrollment of 40,000.
