Glow & Grow: Black Beauty, Haircare, and Skincare Tips

Fenty Beauty’s Butta Drop and BGLH Marketplace’s Vanilla Whipped Shea Butter are both popular body butters. Fenty has mainstream buyers in a chockehold, while BGLH is more prominent among indie beauty buyers. But when you compared the two products, who comes out on top? We did a breakdown by price, feel, moisture, and ingredients, and to remain unbiased, we used Reddit reviews for Fenty to guide our process. (If you’ve tried both brands please scroll down to the comment section and give us your input!) Here we go:

    1. Price Comparison

    Fenty Beauty Butta Drop:

    • Price: $46 for 6.7 oz ($35 for 6.7 oz on Amazon)
    • Cost per ounce: $6.86
    • Monthly subscription price: $41.40 for 6.7 oz
    • Subscription cost per ounce: $6.18

    BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea:

    • Price: $45 for 6 oz
    • Cost per ounce: $7.50
    • Monthly subscription price: $27.00 for 6 oz
    • Subscription cost per ounce: $4.50

    Verdict:
The verdict is clear here. For one time purchasing, Fenty wins on cost. For subscription plans, BGLH is the winner.

    2. Feel

    Fenty Beauty Butta Drop:
According to reviews, Fenty’s Butta Drop has a light, silky texture. It feels smooth when you put it on and gives your skin a soft glow with just a little shimmer. Some reviewers say it feels greasy at first but absorbs into the skin well, leaving a nice dewy finish.

    Customer Review (Fenty):

    • “It feels silky and smooth, and the shimmer is gorgeous, but it’s a bit greasy at first.”
    • “My skin feels soft, but I do need to reapply after a few hours.”
    • “This was the best post pregnancy cream ever. The skin looked and felt the best… It will soak into your clothes, if you don’t have time to wait.”

    BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea:
BGLH’s butter is rich and creamy but doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. It is designed to melt into skin quickly and leave it feeling soft and moisturized, without any sticky residue. Reviewers seem to agree.

    Customer Review (BGLH):

    • Liana Bordeaux (Jul 7, 2025): “Leaves my skin shiny, soft, and moisturized, and smells just like vanilla but not overpowering.”
    • Renee (Mar 17, 2024): “It’s not greasy, and the smell is AMAZING!”

    Verdict:
If you want something that feels light and shimmery, Fenty Butta Drop might be your pick. But if you prefer a rich, creamy moisturizer that absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any greasy feeling behind, go for BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea.

    3. Moisture

    Fenty Beauty Butta Drop:
Fenty’s Butta Drop gives your skin a boost of moisture right away. But for people with really dry skin, some say they need to reapply after a few hours because the moisture doesn’t last all day.

    Customer Review (Fenty):

    • “It moisturizes well, but I need to apply more after a while if my skin feels dry again.”

    BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea:
BGLH’s butter is known for lasting moisture. It’s made with shea butter and other oils that lock in moisture for a long time, making it perfect for dry skin, even in cold weather or during winter months.

    Customer Review (BGLH):

    • Sierra Russek (Mar 2, 2025): “The moisture is wonderfully nourishing without being greasy.”
    • Renee (Mar 17, 2024): “It glides on and absorbs quickly, and the moisture lasts all day!”

    Verdict:
BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea wins for long-lasting moisture. If your skin is really dry or you want something that will keep you hydrated all day, BGLH is the better option.

    4. Ingredient Quality

Let’s look at the first 5 ingredients, which make up of the majority of the product, and see what’s in them.

Fenty Butta Drop is a water-based emulsion with a mix of natural and synthetic ingredients.

    1. Aqua/Water/Eau
Acts as a base and solvent to deliver hydration temporarily—non-irritating but evaporates quickly without an occlusive layer.
    2. Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil
Provides moisture and slip, locking in hydration, but may not work well for acne-prone skin due to potential pore-clogging.
    3. Glycerin
A powerful humectant that draws moisture into the skin—highly effective and widely used in hydrating skincare.
    4. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
A lightweight emollient derived from coconut oil and glycerin that enhances skin softness and spreadability—non-greasy and non-irritating.
    5. Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil
A nutrient-rich oil with antioxidants and fatty acids that support skin regeneration and elasticity—gentle and effective for soothing.

BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea is an all-natural water-free formula.

    1. Refined Shea Butter
A rich emollient packed with vitamins A and E that deeply nourishes, softens, and protects dry skin—highly effective for long-lasting moisture.
    2. Coconut Oil
A fast-absorbing oil with antibacterial properties that helps retain moisture and soothe irritation—great for softening but can be comedogenic (cause pore clogging) for some.
    3. Mango Butter
A lightweight, non-greasy butter full of antioxidants that supports skin elasticity and helps even tone—gentle and well-tolerated by sensitive skin.
    4. Almond Oil
A vitamin-rich oil that improves skin tone, calms inflammation, and strengthens the skin barrier—especially effective for dry or irritated skin.
    5. Vanilla Extract
Primarily included for scent, but contains small amounts of antioxidants that can have mild soothing and anti-inflammatory effects.

Which Ingredients Are Better? It’s a Tie, because each product has a

If you’re looking for deep, long-lasting moisture BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea is the winner. Why?

Refined shea butter, coconut oil, mango butter, and almond oil are all rich emollients and occlusives. They seal in moisture and actively repair the skin barrier, especially for dry, sensitive, or flaky skin. This is an oil-based formula with no water, so every ingredient is doing work — no filler.

Best for: Very dry, textured, sensitive, or winter-parched skin.
Not ideal for: Acne-prone faces (due to coconut oil), or folks who want a weightless feel.

If you’re looking for lightweight hydration Fenty Butta Drop has a more modern, water-based formula.

Water and glycerin are classic hydrating agents — they’re humectants that draw water into the skin. It also includes light emollients like caprylic/capric triglyceride and rice bran oil to smooth things out. But it relies on evaporative hydration — meaning it gives a nice hit of moisture that may not last unless layered with something more occlusive.

Best for: Normal to combo skin, layering under makeup, or hot/humid climates.
Not ideal for: People who need deep repair or want all-day protection without reapplying.

    Final Verdict

    • Best for Price: Fenty Butta Drop is the winner for one-time purchasing. BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea is the winner for subscriptions.
    • Best for Feel: BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea is the winner for its creamy, non greasy finish.
    • Best for Moisture: BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea is the best for long-lasting moisture.
    • Best Ingredients: This is a tie. Fenty Butta Drop is best for a burst of hydration. BGLH Vanilla Whipped Shea is best for long lasting moisture.
