Former WANM Personality and Producer Awarded P&G’s Prestigious CEO Award

Long before she stepped into corporate America, Asiya Gilmore was making her mark and embodying the motto of Florida A&M University: “Excellence with Caring.”

As a student in the FAMU School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (FAMU SJGC), she worked hard to hone her communications skills, including hosting and producing 90.5 WANM’s “Saturday Morning Show,” serving as an iHeart Radio personality, and writing for The FAMUAN.

The 2021 broadcast journalism graduate balanced academics as an honors scholar with consistent involvement in student media and serving campus organizations, such as the FAMU Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.

While Gilmore was preparing herself for success, she made sure to help others excel along the way. She spent much of her free time investing in her fellow students as a tutor in the Writing Resource Center. As she prepared to leave “The Hill,” she continued her commitment to empowering others by becoming the chief operating officer of Gilmore Girls Greetings LLC and its nonprofit arm, where she continued to develop programs that support middle and high school girls through leadership training and mentoring services. She also served as the social media manager for Our Brown Boy Joy, spearheading and managing content and campaigns.

The Cleveland native’s heart for ensuring people felt uplifted and seen made her the perfect fit to join Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 2023 as a communications manager in its beauty division. She’s focused on its North America Hair Care arm and has led strategy for its Aussie and Head & Shoulders lines, along with activations for My Black is Beautiful.

“If you know me, you know how often I say that God truly blessed me with a career that I love day in and day out,” she wrote to her followers, expressing the pride and joy she takes in her work.

As she’s navigated the corporate sector, Gilmore has never lost her passion for lifting up others with humility and grace while serving one of the nation’s top consumer brands and a Fortune 500 company. Her care for the betterment of people, which drives the way she leads communication efforts, led her to earn the coveted CEO Award from P&G for the 2024–25 fiscal year, within less than two years of joining the company. The recognition is only given to the top 5% of employees globally.

Gilmore says she is grateful for her FAMU network and strong relationships with company and industry colleagues. She credits their support as stepping stones that helped her reach the milestones she’s already achieved within the global P&G organization. Photo Courtesy: Asiya Gilmore/P&G.

P&G’s presentation of her award included remarks from P&G leaders that reflect how she’s embodying one of the company’s mottos: “Improving everyday life.”

P&G Beauty’s Juwan Thompson, director and associate vice president of communications for Mielle, Head & Shoulders and Aussie, and Sarah Pasquinucci, senior director of communications for North America Hair Care, were among those who wrote acknowledgements for the presentation.

“Asiya has consistently excelled in navigating challenges and enhancing strategies, proving herself a communications rock star,” the presentation said.” She fosters teamwork and inspires colleagues with insights shared at the AAD (American Academy of Dermatology) Conference while strengthening ties with her alma mater, FAMU, and recruiting with The LAGRANT Foundation (which serves to increase representation in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations). Asiya is a high-performing team player whose strategic mindset makes her the perfect candidate for the CEO Award.”

The tools and skills Gilmore garnered as an SJGC student have aided her in accomplishing history-making efforts for the company. And she returns to “The Hill” often to speak to students about how to reach their goals and offers them opportunities and insights about jobs in communications and even joining P&G.

“To be recognized for my hard work at P&G is such a blessing,” Gilmore said. “SJGC not only taught me the skills needed to succeed but also the tools to network and build meaningful relationships. Through the relationships I’ve built, I was grateful to be offered the position at P&G and offered mentorship through other FAMU alumnae. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without SJGC.”

According to P&G’s communications leadership, Gilmore’s innovative and strategic work has helped keep the Head & Shoulders brand relevant and engaging for today’s consumers. She led major initiatives like partnering with top dermatologists and promoting the brand’s status as a leader in scalp care, helping it stay front and center across media platforms.

She also created a social media playbook that helped her team respond quickly to trends on TikTok and Instagram, leading to a high boost in visibility and more user-generated content. Gilmore was also instrumental in helping the brand tap into sports audiences, too, leading creative projects tied to the NFL, including the 2025 NFL Draft.

Her work directly contributed to increased product sales, award recognition, and strong engagement from influencers, especially in the dermatology space, where her campaigns saw video views well above industry averages.

Gilmore’s skillset of turning people-centric ideas into real results that boost both brand awareness and customer connection is sure to take her far and is a testament to the power of a FAMU SJGC education.
