    Local Headlines & Updates:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – School zone camera enforcement will begin at Alfred Ely Beach High School on Sept. 3.

Savannah Police’s school zone safety program expanded to Beach High School this year with a 30-day warning period that started Aug. 4.

The cameras will operate 45 minutes before school begins, remain active throughout the school day, and deactivate 30 minutes after dismissal.

The cameras are only active on school days. No citations will be issued on holidays, weekends, or emergency closure days.

Citations are only issued when car goes 11 mph or more over the posted school zone limit. Citations are $100 for a first violation and $150 for a second or any subsequent violation.

These citations are classified as civil rather than criminal so no points are placed on driver records and insurance is not affected.
