    Amy Wenk reports that a deal to merge two U.S. timberland giants will bring a new corporate headquarters to Atlanta and form the state’s largest private landowner. Two real estate investment trusts, Florida-based Rayonier and Washington state-based PotlatchDeltic, said Tuesday they’ve entered into an agreement to combine in a deal valued at $8.2 billion, including net debt.

University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue named Crowe as the temporary successor of President Richard Carvajal on Tuesday.

    Maya Homan reports, public health experts in Georgia are speaking out against furloughs at the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention they say have left hundreds of employees at the agency unemployed as the federal government shutdown enters its third week. Federal employees began receiving reduction-in-force notices, the technical name for layoffs, on Friday.

Jon Ossoff in next year’s marquee election race in Georgia. Speaking at a luncheon at a St. Simons restaurant sponsored by the Golden Isles Republican Women, the one-term congressman from Jackson in rural Butts County panned Ossoff as a “trust fund kid” who “never had a real job in his life.”
