10/30/2025 – Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT) announces “CAT To the Polls,” a zero-fare initiative designed to eliminate transportation barriers for voters on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4.

On Election Day, fixed-route and paratransit vehicles will operate from 5:00 a.m. to 10:15 p.m., ensuring residents have convenient, reliable access to polling locations throughout CAT’s service area in Chatham County.

The CAT Board of Directors unanimously approved the zero-fare day during its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 28.

“CAT is proud to play a role in ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to make their voice heard,” said Detric Leggett, Chairman of the CAT Board of Directors. “Transportation should never be a barrier to civic participation, and this initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to serving the community.”

By offering free rides across all routes, CAT To the Polls makes it easier for residents to reach their designated polling places and take part in this year’s election.

“Access to the polls is essential to a healthy democracy,” said Stephanie Cutter, Interim Executive Director/CEO of CAT. “By removing the cost of transportation on Election Day, we’re helping make voting more equitable and accessible for everyone in our community.”
