Leotis Bloodworth, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Leotis Bloodworth, Sr., a beloved husband, father, Dada, Unc, brother, father-in-love, and friend, who departed this world on December 13, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 78. He was born on December 20, 1946, in Hazlehurst, Georgia.

Leotis was a proud veteran who served two years in the U.S. Army, including time in Vietnam. His dedication to service extended far beyond his military duty. He was an active member of the NAACP and a leader in several community organizations, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to justice and equality.

After returning from the war, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Savannah State College, where he was also a proud member of the Savannah State Marching Band. He later became a graduate member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He briefly taught music in local public schools before transitioning into pharmaceutical sales, where he broke barriers as the first African American Pharmaceutical Sales Representative at Syntex Laboratories.

Leotis went on to dedicate more than 30 years of his career to GlaxoSmithKline, where he served as a Certified Medical Representative and earned numerous recognitions from medical institutions, reflecting his passion for education and excellence. Later in life, he became the founder and Chief Financial Officer of Waste Wise Innovation, a company he launched with his son and granddaughters.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Leotis was a compassionate caregiver and mentor to many. He was known for his gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to his family, serving as the foundation of his household. His love extended into the community, where he faithfully served as a Deacon at Christ Memorial Baptist Church and as Executive Director of the Boy Scouts of America in Yamacraw Village. His deep commitment to mentorship, especially to the youth, made him a hero not only to his family but to the entire community.

Leotis’s adventurous spirit lived on through countless memories filled with joy and laughter. From annual golf trips with Bubba and friends, to sharing life lessons and history with his granddaughters, to spirited porch debates with friends, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm. He created unforgettable experiences, taking Tonya and her best friend to concerts in Savannah and joyfully participating in the annual father-daughter dance competitions with Maria. Time spent tending his garden, enjoying a good round of golf, cooking, and reading brought him peace and happiness.

Most meaningful of all were the cherished moments he shared with his wife. Married for 57 years, Leotis and Marie cherished spending each day together. She was the love of his life, and he took great care to ensure her comfort, security, and well-being always.

Among Leotis’s proudest accomplishments were the joys found within his family. He was honored as Father of the Year by the Savannah Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, a recognition that reflected his deep commitment to family and community. Nothing meant more to him than watching each of his children and grandchildren grow, learn, and proudly walk across the stage at their graduations. He took immense pride in celebrating a loving 50th wedding anniversary with his wife, Marie, a milestone that reflected a lifetime of devotion. One of his most treasured moments came in April 2025, when he was surrounded by generations of family at the surprise Bloodworth Family Reunion, a moment that perfectly captured what he valued most: family, togetherness, and love.

Leotis leaves behind his devoted wife, Marie Cooper Bloodworth; his cherished children, Tonya Bloodworth, Dr. Leotis Bloodworth Jr. (Monet), and Dr. Maria Bloodworth Graham (Treva); special niece and nephew, Audris and Ike Hymon; his wonderful granddaughters, Briana, Jailyn, and Lauryn Bloodworth; his loving sisters, Mary Alice McCrimmon, Brenda Vonne Knight, Ola Ross (Fred), Wanda Young (James), Brenda Joyce Young, Brigette Benton, Diane King, Vernester King; his “little brother” and cousin, Alfred Cason; sister-in-law, Gladys Wooten (Michael); brother-in-law, Ralph Cooper, Sr; special aunts, Altdamease Holmes and Shirley Griffin; godson, Reverend Ralph Cooper, Jr.(Tiffany), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Leotis is preceded in death by his son, LeArtis Bloodworth; his mother, Ms. Hazel Ware Young; his beloved maternal grandparents, Leola and Roosevelt Bloodworth, who lovingly raised him; and his brothers, Joseph Young, David Ricky Young, and Eugene Allen (Jewel).

Leotis Bloodworth Sr. will always be remembered for his compassion, dedication, and the warm legacy of love he leaves behind. His influence will forever be felt in the lives he touched, and he remains a shining light in the hearts of his family and friends.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on December 20, 2025, starting at 5:00 PM at The Adams Chapel, located at 510 Stephenson Ave, Savannah, GA 31405..
