Black Travelers: Explore Culture, Adventure & Connection

    Key takeaways
    • New editorial roles: I become Editor-in-Chief of HDYTI, mentoring contributors while Omo edits selected verticals; co-founders continue guiding vision.
    • Professional shifts: I serve as COO of Black Travel Summit and Director of Operations for Black Travel Alliance, blending advocacy and partnerships.
    • Bigger storytelling: producing film projects worldwide that weave food, culture, and my Deep South heritage while building new creative teams.
    • Community remains central: amplifying global voices, expanding perspectives, and refreshing HDYTI's look to reflect vibrant, inclusive cultural storytelling.

After ten years of travel, food, and culture storytelling, HDYTI is evolving into a digital magazine—expanding its team, vision, and global voices.

A Love Project That Became So Much More…

When Omo and I launched Hey! Dip Your Toes In (HDYTI) in 2015, it was meant to be a love project. My dad had asked if we’d ever write a book or start a blog. We chose the blog—and with it, a kind of shared diary of our travels, food discoveries, and the realities of navigating the world as Black travellers.

We couldn’t have imagined then how far this platform would take us. Along the way, we’ve spoken on global stages, worked with hundreds of brands, and had the absolute delight of stepping into television—filming two seasons of an episodic series called The Three Drinkers on Amazon Prime. We were also featured on a show with Jamie Oliver, one of the world’s most recognisable chefs. Each of these moments was exciting, new, and deeply humbling—a reminder that HDYTI has always been bigger than just us.

    Shifts, Seasons, and New Roles

But life has shifted. These days, Omo and I don’t travel together as often. His career in IT is thriving, and I’ve stepped more deeply into thought leadership and travel executive roles.

I currently serve as COO of the Black Travel Summit, a global conference and platform that celebrates the African diaspora’s impact on travel and tourism. In this role, I oversee operations alongside our CEO and help lead a team of 22. Together, we shape partnerships, programming, and community experiences on an international scale.

I also serve as Director of Operations for the Black Travel Alliance, an organisation advocating for greater representation of Black voices in the travel industry. With a team of nine, we collaborate with brands around the world to strengthen collective impact through research, advocacy, and meaningful partnerships.

Family commitments, career growth, and the desire to sometimes travel just for us—without the pressure of brand campaigns—have all shaped how we think about HDYTI’s future.

    Entering a New Chapter

So what does that mean for you, our HDYTI family?

It means change. And with change comes growth.

I’m stepping into the role of Editor-in-Chief of HDYTI, guiding our evolution into a digital magazine. This new chapter is about more than rebranding—it’s about widening the circle. My focus is on mentoring contributors, shaping the editorial voice, and building a platform where global storytellers can share perspectives on travel, food, and culture. Peruse our most recent stories, and you’ll find their voices covering everything from local events to global travel.

And Omo? He’s still here too—taking on the role of Editor of selected verticals (we’ll unveil those soon). His voice and perspective will continue to shape the platform, even as his professional path takes him in new directions. Together, we remain the co-founders of HDYTI—just with roles that make sense for this season of life.

Looking Ahead: Filming, Food, and Fresh Perspectives

What excites me most is what’s next. Behind the scenes, I’m working with film crews on projects with destinations around the world—telling rich, layered stories of food culture and identity. Some of these will connect to my own heritage in the Deep South of the United States, weaving family history into global narratives. These larger-scale productions mean building new teams, embracing new ways of working, and carving out space for creativity at a whole new level.

And yes, we’re refreshing our look. A new HDYTI brand identity is coming this year, with updated visuals and verticals that reflect the breadth of what we’ve become.

At the Heart of It All: Community

At the heart of all this change, though, is something that hasn’t shifted: our commitment to community. From the beginning, HDYTI has been about amplifying voices, creating space for stories that matter, and building connection through culture. In times like these, community feels more important than ever.

So here we are: ten years later, stepping into a new chapter. We’re still travelling, still telling stories, but with more voices, more layers, and more surprises ahead.

Thank you for being with us every step of the way. You’ve carried us this far, and I can’t wait to share what comes next.
