Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPS) Update:

    Key takeaways
    • National Gypsum Company donated $27,500 to support Groves High School’s CTAE programs as part of its Giving Tuesday initiative.
    • The donation is part of a broader $1 million commitment to 40 schools and nonprofits across multiple states and provinces to advance STEM education.
    • Company leaders toured CTAE labs and emphasized strengthening science, technology, engineering, and math skills to prepare the next generation of technical professionals.

National Gypsum Company has offered support in the form of a $27,500 check presented to Groves High School’s CTAE programs this week. The donation is part of the company’s Giving Tuesday philanthropic commitment.  The check presentation was made on Wednesday, December 3rd with district staff and a student at the Groves High Industrial Academy in attendance.

National Gypsum Savannah Plant Manager greets Groves High Student there to accept donation on behalf of his school.

Savannah Plant Manager Daniel Hoenig enjoyed a tour of the school’s CTAE labs before the check presentation.  He said the company was excited to support the types of career education being made available there. The donation was part of a one million dollar commitment made by the company to 40 schools and nonprofits across 19 states and two Canadian provinces, to advance STEM education.

Each year leading up to Giving Tuesday, the company’s teams across the United States and Canada select local organizations that provide a meaningful impact to their communities. According to a press release from the company, all of the selected organizations have made a deep impact on students’ lives and education.

Now in its fifth year, the initiative supports organizations that provide science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning opportunities in the communities where our associates live and work. Since its inception five years ago, National Gypsum’s support for these programs has continued to grow, helping expand the range of education initiatives, learning enrichment activities, and training programs for future professionals in the engineering, manufacturing, architecture, and skilled trades.

“These education initiatives are essential in equipping the next generation with the technical skills and knowledge to become innovative leaders,” said Thomas C. Nelson, chairman, president, and CEO of National Gypsum Company. “By strengthening science, technology, engineering, and math education, these programs help prepare a workforce ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow. I’m grateful that National Gypsum can support the organizations in our communities whose work is vital to building a strong foundation for the future.”

National Gypsum Company, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, is the exclusive service provider of reliable, high-performance building products manufactured by its affiliate companies and marketed under the Gold Bond®, ProForm®, and PermaBASE® brands. We thank them for their support of Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools!
