More than 100 people from throughout the community showed up to celebrate the opening of the brand new Bloomingdale Elementary School building with a ribbon cutting on Friday, August 1, 2025. Those joining in the ceremony included the city’s Mayor Dennis Baxter, school and district staff, the Superintendent and Board of Education members.

In addition to the ribbon cutting for the new school facility, the ceremony also featured a dedication and naming of the school’s gymnasium in honor of Dr. Ronald Wayne Bland in recognition of his contributions as a former Public School Teacher and Administrator, as well as his longstanding service to the Bloomingdale community as both a Fire Chief and City Councilman. Members of his family were there to be recognized and unveil a photo of the plaque that will later be mounted on the gymnasium wall.

The new school facility was built on the site of the original elementary school. The nearly 151-thousand square foot facility will welcome students from Pre-K through 5th Grade.

The new building features 64 classrooms, dedicated art and music spaces, a broadcast studio, STEM and energy labs, plus a solar panel system generating 24% of its daily energy needs. The school reflects a bold investment in innovation, sustainability, and student success.

This $64-million project was made possible through ESPLOST funding and the vision of our community. See more photos from the event here.
