SAVANNAH, Ga.- Javonte Landy and the Savannah State University men’s basketball team was recently honored by HBCU All-Stars for their play on the court during the week of December 14-20.

Landy was named the HBCU All-Stars Player of the Week while the Tigers were tabbed as Team of the Week.

It is the second time this season that Landy has earned HBCU All-Stars Player of the Week.

Last week, Savannah State closed out the 2025 portion of their schedule with home wins over Tuskegee and Miles.

SSU gave Tuskegee their first conference lost in a 60-57 victory over the Golden Tigers on December 17 and Savannah State knocked Miles from the unbeaten ranks with their 70-59 win on December 19.

With the contest with Tuskegee knotted at 57, SSU’s Zyere Edwards stole a pass and went down court for a fast-break layup to give SSU a 59-57 lead with 34 seconds remaining. The Tigers iced the game with a James Leach free throw with 15 seconds left, although Tuskegee got off a pair of 3-point attempts before the final buzzer sounded.

SSU went into intermission holding a 34-24 lead over Miles. Baskets by the Golden Bears early in the second half cut the Tigers lead to six before a jumper by Leach and layups by Jordan Mikel and Landy gave SSU a 43-29 edge with 16:14 left in the game. With just under six minutes remaining and Savannah State ahead by 14, the Tigers scored the next seven points to go ahead 68-47 for their largest lead of the night.

In the game against Tuskegee, Landy ended the night with 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and only one turnover in 33 minutes of action. The senior guard from Savannah, Georgia finished the night against Miles with a game-high 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, one steal and one turnover.

Savannah State (5-5, 5-3 SIAC) on January 3, 2026 against Morehouse in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 2026 HBCU All-Star Game, a college basketball showcase highlighting 24 of the best HBCU players in the country, will be held in Indianapolis at Corteva Coliseum on the Indiana State Fairgrounds (Sunday, April 5, 2026) and will air live on national television and streaming networks.
