From Hollywood to Home: Black Voices in Entertainment

You would think that two R&B singers collaborating in a studio together would lead to some magic, but not with Ne-Yo and Keyshia Cole. The ‘So Sick’ hitmaker recently opened up on his first encounter with Keyshia at a recording session for one of her projects. But things went all the way left the minute she walked in, with Ne-Yo claiming our good sis appeared angered or annoyed from the jump. Here’s what happened…

Keyshia Apparently Was Not Feeling Ne-Yo’s Studio Sesh

Ne-Yo, who is well known outside of his solo career for penning some chart-hitting songs, got candid about a throwback session with KC that left him side-eyeing her.

On the ‘We Sound Crazy‘ podcast, he recalled being tapped to write for the ‘I Should’ve Cheated’ songstress. But from the minute Keyshia rolled in, he says she was already huffing and puffing. “She came in on 10 a little bit,” Ne-Yo recounted, remembering how she seemed annoyed or angered by something. “I’m like, ‘Damn, what you mad at me for?’”

“It seems like she was upset about something. Mind you, she’s introduced to me as a singer-songwriter, so we’re sitting down, we’re trying to write. I’m understanding that she writes too, so I could’ve had the song done [faster].”

When Keyshia Finally Heard The Song, Ne-Yo Says, She Did THIS

Ne-Yo, respecting Keyshia’s singer-songwriter rep, was ready to collab, but the session was a hot mess. “We’re trying to write, but she’s upset about something,” he shared. After 20-30 minutes of Ne-Yo trying to come up with a track, Keyshia hit him with a blunt, “What you got?”

Ne-Yo allowed her to hear the song, but Keyshia seemed unimpressed. “She goes, ‘Yeah, that’s cool. Hold on,’” he said, reenacting her exit. Y’all, he says, sis left and didn’t come back.

Ne-Yo ain’t holding grudges over it, though. He made it clear he’s had smoother sessions with Keyshia since then, so there’s no real beef. “It was just that first encounter,” he clarified. Sounds like Keyshia might’ve been going through it that day, and Ne-Yo just caught the heat of it.

Fans React To Ne-Yo’s First Studio Session With Keyshia

The Roomies were gagged by the revelation on TSR’s post, with frequent comments highlighting past incidents where Keyshia may have had a lil’ attitude. Peep the reactions below…

@nwanyebinladen wrote, “Ne-Yo walked in with love songs, Keyshia came in with heartbreak. the math wasn’t mathing.”

@julez540 wrote, “So what we saw during her VERZUZ with Ashanti and being late was very on brand 😂😂😂”

@tmariestyles shared, “Don’t care for Neyo but I def believe him Keshia stay with an attitude”

@lecolevs wrote, “Unfortunately, that has been her downfall. She’s talented but her attitude needs adjusting!”

@masey_marie wrote, “& that’s probably why Chris Brown and Mary J turned down working with her 😭😭😭😭😭😭”

@tiaraforever14 wrote, “He’s not the first person to say this about her though. I hope she don’t give diva vibes to everybody she works with.”

@jessvcagabrvelle_ wrote, “Chris Brown refused to work with her over 10 times I heard”

@iarchbacks wrote, “keyshia been known for a attitude since she came in the industry. this shouldn’t be shocking to nobody 😂😂😂”

@neecymonroe wrote, “I mean Keyshia Cole gives mean girl so it’s believable 🤷🏾‍♀️😂🤣🤣🤣”
