Our cover girl Samantha, opens up about her journey as a model, sharing insights on her career, confidence, and what it truly means to stay true to yourself.

Hi Sam, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m Samantha! I’m a part-time model and based in London.

    How old are you?

    I’m 32 years old.

Do you work with an agency, or are you a freelance model?

    I’m a freelance model.

What first drew you to modelling?

Honestly, I was super lucky. I was discovered on Instagram by makeup artist Joy Adenuga 10 years ago, and started modelling from there.

Can you tell us about your previous cover girl features?

This is my fourth time. I was in Pride Magazine and Black Beauty & Hair’s April/May Bridal Special 2018 issue. And just last month, I was on FEME’s Spell Beauty magazine!

Where else might we have seen your work?

You might have seen most of my work on a few ponytail and wig cap ads if you keep your eyes open.

Other than being a cover girl, what’s been the highlight of your career so far?

I can’t say, just being able to say that I am a model is its own highlight.

What would be your dream modelling job?

My dream modelling job would be surrounded by nice, patient people who give me clear instructions on what they want. The environment I work in is very important to me.

What was it like working with FEME team?

The FEME team are amazing, I love working for them. They’re all kind, friendly and thoughtful people.

How would you describe your off-duty style?

I love my comfort! Trainers and baggy jeans are my go-to staples. I’ve been a little obsessed with wearing baby pink and pale purple colours over the summer.

What are your top three go-to hair care products?

Recently, I’ve been wearing my hair in mini twists, and using a curling creme is a must! I use gel to seal my ends. And (this is a bit weird), but I use a lash serum on my edges!

What’s one thing you never leave the house without?

My phone, I would feel so vulnerable without knowing it’s on me!

What are your favourite beauty brands of the moment and why?

Juvia’s Place is always going to be my number one; their blushes are so pigmented and work so well on dark skin.

Skindinavia have one of the best setting sprays out there.

Lastly, I really like Paula’s Choice, specifically their liquid exfoliants. I use the 2% BHA, and it always makes my skin smooth.

Lastly, do you have any advice for aspiring cover girls?

My advice would be to focus on enjoying yourself and don’t let the stress of wanting to be a cover girl get to you. In my experience, it happens when you least expect it!
