Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) Update:

Pursuant to applicable Georgia law and Board policy, a vacancy exists on the Savannah‑Chatham County Board of Education for the District 2 seat.

The vacancy occurred because the incumbent Board member qualified for election to another public office, thereby vacating the seat in accordance with state law. The Savannah‑Chatham County Board of Education is authorized to appoint a qualified individual to fill this vacancy until the next available election for the office.

The Board of Education invites qualified residents of District 2 who meet all statutory eligibility requirements to submit a request for consideration for appointment to fill the unexpired term for District 2.

Eligibility Requirements

Any person appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education must possess the same qualifications required for election to a full term, as prescribed by Georgia law and Board policy. To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a resident of District 2 for at least one (1) year immediately preceding the date of appointment
  • Be at least twenty‑one (21) years of age
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Not be a convicted felon
  • Not serve on the governing board of a private elementary or secondary school
  • Not be employed by:
    • the Savannah‑Chatham County Public School System,
    • the Georgia Department of Education, or
    • the State Board of Education
  • Not have an immediate family member serving as:
    • a member of a local board of education, or
    • the local school superintendent, principal, assistant principal, or system‑level administrative staff of the Savannah‑Chatham County Public School System

Failure to meet any of the above requirements shall render an applicant ineligible for appointment.

Public Interview and Appointment

The Board of Education will review all timely submissions and may invite eligible applicants to participate in a public interview during a special called meeting of the Board.

  • Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2026
  • Time: 11:30 a.m.
  • Location: Whitney Administrative Complex, 2 Laura Avenue, Bldg. G

Following the public interviews, the Board of Education will hold discussion and vote in an open meeting to appoint a qualified individual to fill the District 2 vacancy, as required by Georgia’s Open Meetings Act and state law.

 Open Meetings Requirement

All deliberations, interviews, and actions related to filling this vacancy by the Board of Education, whether conducted by the full Board or a committee thereof, shall occur in an open and public meeting, consistent with Georgia law.

Invitation to Apply

The application will be open March 16, 2026 – March 25, 2026.  All requests for consideration must be submitted no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.   Requests received after this deadline will not be considered.
