    Savannah State University will honor State Representative Edna Branch Jackson during a special program recognizing her distinguished career in public service and longstanding commitment to Savannah State University and the greater Savannah community.

    The program will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, in the King-Frazier Student Center at Savannah State University. The program will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

    Elected officials, university leaders, community partners, alumni, students and friends are expected to gather to celebrate Jackson’s leadership, legacy and lasting contributions to Savannah and the state of Georgia.

    “Representative Jackson’s legacy is one of service, leadership and an enduring commitment to the people of Savannah,” said Savannah State University President Dr. Jermaine Whirl. “At Savannah State, our responsibility extends beyond educating students in the classroom. We are preparing the next generation of leaders to understand the importance of service, civic engagement and using their talents to strengthen the communities they call home. Representative Jackson’s life and career provide a powerful example of those values in action. Her longstanding support of Savannah State University and dedication to this community have made a meaningful impact across generations, and we are proud to recognize her extraordinary contributions.”

    Jackson’s career in public service has included leadership at both the state and local levels, with a continued focus on serving the residents of Savannah and advocating for the community. Throughout her career, she has remained a valued supporter and friend of Savannah State University.

    The recognition program will provide an opportunity for colleagues, community leaders and members of the Savannah State family to reflect on Jackson’s years of service and celebrate the impact of her leadership.
