2025 SCCPSS Student Scores on the ACT Beat National and Comparison Group Average

The Georgia Department of Education this week released 2025 American College Test (ACT) scores. The ACT® is a standardized college admissions test that assesses high school students’ academic readiness for college-level coursework. The ACT test contains four sections—English, mathematics, reading, and science—and an optional writing test. These tests measure important content, skills, and concepts taught in high school, which are needed for success in college and career.

SCCPSS student scores were slightly below the state of Georgia average, but were higher than both the National average and Comparison Group in every subject and the composite score. Scores for each ACT section, or subject, range from 1 to 36. The composite ACT score is the average of the English, Reading, Math, and Science section scores and ranges from 1 to 36.  A composite ACT score of 22 or higher is the benchmark score used to indicate that a student is well-prepared for college level coursework within Georgia’s CCRPI.

“We are nearing a decade of Georgia students beating the national average on the ACT, with similar results on the SAT,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “Despite the challenges public schools across the country have faced over the last decade, our students continue to outperform the national average – our teachers, school leaders, families, and students should take great pride in that accomplishment. At the state level, we will continue to work to ensure our schools, districts, and teachers have the resources they need to continue producing great outcomes – and successful futures – for students.”

College Readiness Benchmarks are scores on the ACT subject-area tests that represent the level of achievement required for students to have a 50% chance of obtaining a B or higher, or about a 75% chance of obtaining a C or higher, in corresponding credit-bearing first-year college courses.

All scores are based on 2025 high school graduates who took the ACT at any point during their sophomore, junior, or senior years in high school. SCCPSS had 149 students participate. School-level ACT performance ranged from a mean ACT composite score of 15.0 at the School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High School to a mean ACT Composite score of 25.3 at Savannah Arts Academy.
