Black Travelers: Explore Culture, Adventure & Connection

    Key takeaways
    • Survivor Season 50 filmed across Fiji's Mamanuca Islands, featuring tribe camps, challenge sites, and stunning beach sequences.
    • Fly into Nadi International Airport, then take speedboat, ferry, seaplane, or helicopter transfers to the Mamanuca Islands; resort transfers common.
    • Best time to visit: dry season, May through October, for lower humidity, sunny weather, and calmer snorkeling waters.
    • Snorkeling, scuba, surfing, and kava ceremonies; visit Monuriki, dine at Cloud 9, stay at Likuliku Lagoon Resort or Six Senses Fiji.

For more than two decades, “Survivor” has kept viewers glued to their screens with dramatic blindsides, unforgettable alliances, emotional confessionals and jaw-dropping tropical island scenery. Whether you started watching back in the early days of Borneo or joined in anticipation of the show’s newer open era phase, there is a bit of something for everyone. From the rugged Australian Outback to the islands of Cambodia and Samoa, the series built its legacy on transporting viewers to dream destinations that felt both beautiful and brutally unforgiving. That’s part of why fans stay obsessed with the franchise after all these years. Watching contestants battle hunger, weather and each other in paradise creates a mix of escapism and suspense that never really gets old.

Naturally, fans are curious about where milestone seasons are filmed, especially a landmark installment like season 50. A season this major had viewers wondering whether producers would return to one of the show’s classic international backdrops or introduce a completely new destination. Instead, the production returned to a familiar island filming location that has quietly become the modern home of the franchise.

Season 50 Of ‘Survivor’ Was Filmed In Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands

    (Robert Voets/CBS)

Key Scenes: Many of the season’s tribe camps, challenge sites and beach sequences were filmed across different islands within the Mamanuca chain. As The Wrap reports, the show will likely continue to be filmed in Fiji.

Best Time to Visit: The ideal time to visit is generally during the dry season from May through October. During those months, travelers can expect lower humidity, sunny weather and calmer waters that are perfect for boating and snorkeling. It is important to note that the temperatures stay warm year-round, so even offseason travel can still feel luxurious and enjoyable.

Transportation Options: Most travelers fly into Nadi International Airport on Fiji’s main island before taking a speedboat, ferry or seaplane transfer to the Mamanuca Islands. Resort transfers are common and many visitors choose island-hopping tours to experience multiple beaches and reefs all in one trip. Helicopter transfers are also available for travelers looking to arrive in true reality-TV fashion.

The breathtaking Mamanuca Islands, located just off Fiji’s western coast served as the backdrop for “Survivor” season 50. This continued the franchise’s long-term love affair with the region, as every season since Season 33 has called Fiji home, according to Travel Pirates. Renowned for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs and picture-perfect beaches, this tropical paradise looks so stunning on television that it almost seems unreal.

Things to Do: One of the most popular excursions is snorkeling around the coral reefs. Another must-see is Monuriki Island, which movie lovers may recognize from the film “Cast Away.” For visitors who want a little more action, scuba diving and surfing are huge attractions in the area. If your ideal vacation vibe is less adrenaline and more luxury, many resorts offer spa treatments, beachfront dining and sunset cruises that perfectly balance out the adventure side of the trip. Cultural experiences are another underrated part of visiting Fiji. Travelers can participate in traditional kava ceremonies, enjoy Fijian music and dance performances and learn about local customs from island communities.

Where to Eat: Even though “Survivor” contestants spend their days surviving on rice, coconuts and reward challenge leftovers, visitors to the Mamanuca Islands definitely don’t have to struggle for good food. Fiji’s resort dining scene blends fresh seafood, tropical produce and Pacific Island flavors with international cuisine, making it easy to eat well while island hopping. Cloud 9 is one of the region’s most famous dining spots. Floating directly on the ocean, this restaurant-and-bar platform is known for pizza, cocktails and panoramic water views that feel straight out of a travel magazine.

Where to Stay: The Mamanuca Islands offer accommodations for nearly every travel style. One of the most well-known resorts in the area is Likuliku Lagoon Resort. This is an adults-only property famous for its overwater bungalows and serene atmosphere. It’s ideal for couples, honeymooners or travelers simply wanting a peaceful island escape. Another standout option is Six Senses Fiji, a luxury eco-resort that blends sustainability with five-star comfort. Guests can enjoy beachfront villas, spa treatments, surfing and private excursions there. Many properties include snorkeling gear, guided tours and island activities directly in their packages. This makes planning easier for international visitors.

Where Is ‘Survivor’ Season 51 Going To Be Filmed?

If you were hoping “Survivor” season 51 would introduce a brand-new country, that probably won’t happen just yet. People reports that the next season began filming in Fiji in April 2026, and should wrap in early July.

While long-time fans might occasionally miss the globe-trotting adventures of the show’s early days, Fiji’s visual magic keeps audiences completely hooked. A trip to the island is as close as you can get to stepping into an episode of “Survivor,” minus the starvation and Tribal Council stress. As host Jeff Probst explained, staying put is primarily a smart logistical decision; the production has already built a permanent infrastructure, fostered deep relationships with local landowners and established seamless local support.

Season 51 is also expected to feature an entirely new cast after the all-returnee excitement of season 50. Early teasers hinted at fresh twists, unpredictable gameplay and what producers are calling a more “open era” for the franchise.

For travel lovers, this continued focus on Fiji only boosts the destination’s appeal. The islands have become instantly recognizable to millions of viewers worldwide, turning the filming locations into unofficial TV tourism hotspots. Whether you’re a hardcore superfan or just someone craving a tropical getaway, Fiji now carries major pop-culture status thanks to “Survivor.”

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Where do “Survivor” cameramen sleep?

As the show’s official website explains, the “Survivor” film crew doesn’t have to fully endure the same conditions as contestants. They typically stay in nearby base camps, production housing or hotels rather than sleeping directly on the beaches with contestants. Crew operations are extensive, involving hundreds of people handling cameras, safety, transportation and logistics. Production staff rotates shifts while maintaining distance from contestants to preserve the integrity of the game.

Where was the “Survivor 50” finale filmed?

Unlike the on-island gameplay filmed in Fiji, the “Survivor” season 50 finale and live reunion was filmed in Los Angeles.
