SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — An event to potentially announce Savannah as a new team to Major League Football has been rescheduled for next week, according to an email received by WSAV.

Originally, league Commissioner Adam McLean planned to make the announcement Tuesday at 11 a.m. at T.A. Wright Stadium, the home of the Savannah State University football team. The time was rescheduled to next Tuesday, June 3 at 4 p.m.

McLean told WSAV the press conference was delayed “to allow the staff at T.A. Wright Stadium more time to provide us the contract needed by both Savannah State and the MLF.”

WSAV reached out to Savannah State Director of Athletics Opio Mashariki. He said “nothing has been finalized” between the university and MLF.

He added they are “having discussions” with the league’s goal of holding a press conference at a later date.

The expectation is the commissioner would announce Savannah as a new franchise in the nascent league. Major League Football currently consists of 24 teams across the country, according to its website.

“Our goal was to fill the void in markets that did not have a professional football team (NFL),” said MLF Commissioner Adam Mclean in a statement sent to WSAV. “As well as offer college football players an opportunity to continue their football careers.”

The league is set to begin play in the fall of 2025, according to its website.
