    The Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) invites the public to attend a community meeting to review and discuss the 2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) Update. The event will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. The location is the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, 2 Canebrake Road, Savannah, GA 31419
    The Hazard Mitigation Plan outlines the county’s risks and vulnerabilities from natural, technological, and human-caused disasters. It also identifies strategies to reduce those risks and lessen the impact of future emergencies.
    The HMP is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) required plan that helps keep Chatham County eligible for important federal disaster assistance programs. These programs provide funding for projects such as home elevations, infrastructure upgrades, and flood mitigation.
    Community members are encouraged to attend to learn about the plan’s updates, including hazard mitigation goals, key hazards of concern, and strategies to address them. Attendees will also have an opportunity to share their experiences, concerns, and ideas for reducing risks in Chatham County.
