Savannah State University (SSU) is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Raymon Hicks as director of admissions. An accomplished leader in admissions administration, Hicks joins SSU following a succesful tenure at Virginia State University.

    Mr. Raymon Hicks

Hicks most recently served as director of admissions operations at Virginia State University, where he oversaw multiple facets of the admissions office, including managing the admissions operations team, ensuring the alignment of operations with institutional and accreditation standards, and collaborating with multiple departments to ensure the seamless execution of university-wide enrollment initiatives.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Hicks to the Tiger family,” said Dr. Terrance Dixon, vice president for Enrollment Management, Student Affairs and Marketing. “His experience in admissions administration is a vital asset as we continue to attract and retain the next generation of talented scholars, directly supporting the ambitious goals of our university’s strategic plan.”

In his new role, Hicks will oversee the admissions office and lead recruitment efforts aimed at expanding the university’s footprint and enhancing the student experience from the first point of contact.

“I am honored to serve as Director of Admissions at Savannah State University,” said Hicks. “My vision is to build an admissions experience that is welcoming, transparent, and rooted in access and opportunity. I believe admissions is not just about enrollment numbers, but about opening doors, recognizing potential, and connecting students—especially those from underserved communities—to an institution that will challenge them, support them, and prepare them to lead. I look forward to advancing the goals of the University’s new strategic plan while helping ensure students see themselves at Savannah State and know they belong.”

A native of Petersburg, Virginia, Hicks holds a Master of Organizational Leadership within Educational Administration and Supervision and a Bachelor of Science in Business Leadership.
