2/3/2026 – Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT) is celebrating Transit Equity Day with a zero-fare service day for fixed-route and CAT Mobility Paratransit services on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, honoring the courage and legacy of Rosa Parks.

Transit Equity Day highlights the importance of accessible, affordable public transportation that connects our community to jobs, education, healthcare, and opportunity. To commemorate Rosa Parks, CAT will also dedicate a seat on every bus and paratransit vehicle in her memory.

“Public transportation is more than getting from point A to point B—it’s a lifeline that connects people to opportunity,” said Deitric Leggett, Chair of the CAT Board of Directors. “On February 4th, we invite everyone to ride with us and celebrate Rosa Parks’ lasting impact on equity and justice.”

Stephanie Cutter, Interim Executive Director/CEO, said, “Rosa Parks’ bravery reminds us that transit systems must be equitable and inclusive. Our zero-fare day is a way to honor her, the meaning of her legacy, and to show that transit is for everyone.”

February 4th marks the anniversary of Rosa Parks’ historic 1955 stand in Montgomery, Alabama, a defining moment that sparked the civil rights movement. Join CAT and ride free as we celebrate her legacy and advance transit equity in our community.
