Savannah, Georgia-Men’s Basketball heads to Metro Atlanta looking to defend their SIAC Tournament Championship, baseball & softball continue their conference road trips, and men’s & women’s track & field open the outdoor portion of their schedules. We’ll cover all of the action in our latest installment of “This Week In Tiger Athletics”.

Men’s Basketball
After a nail-biting home victory over Kentucky State in the Opening Round of the SIAC Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by Toyota, head coach Clevan Thompson and the East Division #3 seed Savannah State men’s basketball squad head to Morrow, Georgia for a quarterfinal matchup against West Division #2 seed Miles on Thursday evening. It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season with Savananh State taking both matchups (70-59 win on Dec. 19th in Savannah, and 85-66 win on Feb. 21st in Fairfield). It will also be a rematch of last season’s SIAC Tournament Quarterfinal, where Savannah State knocked off the then SIAC Regular Season Champion Golden Bears, 63-61. Tip-off is set for 8:00pm inside of the new Clayton County Convocation Center.

Softball
Winners of 10 of their last 11 games, including a road SIAC sweep of Clark Atlanta last week, head coach Amber Hallman and the Lady Tiger softball squad have shown signs of them being a serious contender in the ultra-competitive SIAC East Division. Savannah State will continue their 14-game road trip this weekend with another important East Division matchup against the Golden Rams of Albany State. A doubleheader will start things off on Friday afternoon at 3:00pm & 5:00pm, followed by the series finale on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.

After completing their three-game SIAC sweep of Kentucky State last Monday, the Tigers sent shockwaves throughout the baseball world, knocking off the defending back-to-back NCAA Divison II National Champion Tampa Spartans last Tuesday afternoon. SSU then went to Atlanta and took two of three from Morehouse last weekend.  The Good Guys will look to keep the roll going as they head to Albany to battle the defending SIAC Champion Albany State Golden Rams in a three-game series. The action begins on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at 2:00pm & 5:00pm, then concludes on Saturday afternoon at 12:00pm.
