City Community Center Gyms Closing for Renovations

SAVANNAH — The City of Savannah has begun a series of gymnasium renovations at four community centers, as part of ongoing efforts to modernize recreational facilities and provide safer, higher-quality spaces for residents.

Upgrades at Liberty City, W.W. Law, Tompkins, and J.S. Delaware community centers are underway. While each gym is closed during construction, centers remain open for other activities. Renovations, including total gym repainting and replacing bleachers, scoreboards, and basketball goals, will occur at all four locations within the next few weeks. The projects reflect a continued investment in neighborhood recreation centers that serve residents across Savannah.

“Our community centers are more than just buildings, they are places where young people learn teamwork, families come together, and neighborhoods are strengthened,” said Mayor Van R. Johnson, II. “By investing in these gymnasium renovations, we are ensuring that residents across Savannah have safe, modern, and welcoming spaces to play, compete, and connect. So, please excuse our dust as we show some love to some of our most loved public facilities.”

The attached image outlines the projected timeline for upgrades at each facility. Timelines are subject to change without notice. The City will provide updates via social media, and residents are encouraged to check with their local community center for additional information.
