SAVANNAH, GA. (WSAV) — The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) hosted its annual high school football media day Thursday.
All eight teams in the area were in attendance and brought head coaches and players to represent them.
Two brand new head coaches spoke at the event: Moses Green for Savannah High, and Russel Perry for Islands.
Green served as an assistant coach at Jenkins for four years before taking the head position for the Bluejackets this offseason. He said his first order of business is to help his players develop off the field.
“Even though they might be great football players,” he said. “If they can’t become great men they might not have a spot on this football team.”
Perry is a Savannah Native and accepted the offer to become Islands’ next head football coach back in March.
“The standard is daily discipline,” he said. “How we keep our lockers, how we keep things at the football field, what the weight room should be like. Every aspect of our program we want to be disciplined.”
Both Savannah High and Islands will begin the 2025 season on Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Savannah will take on Frederica Academy and Islands will play Mcintosh County Academy.
