The Georgia Atlanta Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announces new president

The Georgia Atlanta Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints announces a new mission president who will supervise and train hundreds of volunteer missionaries serving in parts of Georgia and Alabama. 

President G. Darren Cox and his wife, Sister Rachelle Cox, moved to Peachtree City to begin their service in June of 2025. 

As Georgia Atlanta Mission leaders, they supervise and train on average from 170 to 180 missionaries during a given time period, but they will work with around 600 young people during their three-year period. 

“We are extremely blessed to serve in Georgia,” President Cox said. “We feel the strength of the history, culture and people here and are eager to help the missionaries as they serve in their communities and invite all to come unto Jesus Christ.”

Serving alongside President and Sister Cox are first counselor, President Jermaine Sullivan and his wife, Kembe, of Atlanta and second counselor, President Ryan Turner and his wife, Amy, of Fayetteville.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ missionary program is one of its most recognized characteristics. Latter-day Saint missionaries can be seen on the streets of hundreds of major cities in the world as well as in thousands of smaller communities.Young members of the church, typically aged 18 to 21, along with senior couples, can choose to serve a mission, lasting from 18 months to two years. They are volunteers and pay their own expenses. The Church has 450 missions throughout the world and approximately 80,000 full-time missionaries.

President and Sister Cox are from Henderson, Nevada. Prior to becoming mission leaders, President Cox was an attorney in the Clark County Public Defenders office in Las Vegas for 29 years. Sister Cox volunteered in the church’s local Family Search Center, where members of the public can receive free help with genealogy research. 

The Georgia Atlanta Mission was created in 1876 and next year will commemorate 150 years. There are missionaries serving in Georgia from Chile, Mexico, Mongolia, Canada, Zimbabwe, South Africa and the United States.
