Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPS) Update:

    Key takeaways
    • Scholarships offered to students at Groves High, Woodville-Tompkins, Jenkins, and Savannah High via the district’s CTAE office.
    • Georgia Pacific presented a $5,000 check, split between recipients, at the CTAE offices in Lower Woodville on May 15, 2026.
    • Recipients missed the presentation because of graduation practice; family members accepted the awards on their behalf.
    • Sarah Friedel, VP of Human Resources at Georgia Pacific, and Lanise Jones presented the check, citing community stewardship.
    • Awarded students completed the Engineering pathway; CTAE instructor Daisy Washington attended the presentation.

Two Jenkins High students are the deserving recipients of scholarships presented by Georgia Pacific this year.  Seniors Crystal Zheng and Oneillia Thomas were awarded the two scholarships in the amount of $2500 each. The criteria for the scholarships was based on school grades, discipline reports and an essay entry.  Students applying must also have completed their pathway.

The scholarships were made available to students at Groves High, Woodville-Tompkins, Jenkins and Savannah High through the district’s CTAE office. Georgia Pacific presented the scholarships to family members of each of the students at the CTAE offices at Lower Woodville on Friday, May 15, 2026. The students themselves were unable to attend due to graduation practice.

Sarah Friedel, VP of Human Resources at Georgia Pacific and Lanise Jones, an HR Generalist with the company presented the check for $5,000 which will be split between the two students.  Friedel said Georgia Pacific wanted to provide the scholarships to be good stewards to the community by investing in the education of potential future members of their workforce.

CTAE Instructor Daisy Washington from Jenkins was also in attendance.  Both awarded students have completed the Engineering pathway at the school.
