Firefighters battle 250-acre wildfire east of Brooklet

Georgia Forestry Commission crews and Bulloch County firefighters are in their second day of battling a large wildfire off Buie Driggers Road east of Brooklet.

According to the Georgia Forestry Commission, as of 5:30 PM, Friday, July 24, 2026, the wildfire has grown to approximately 250 acres and is threatening between five and 15 homes.

Ten Georgia Forestry Commission tractors are currently working the fire, with six more en route. An aircraft response is also on the way to assist ground crews. Multiple GFC supervisors and Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office personnel are at the scene.

Firefighters worked for several hours Thursday, July 23, 2026, and had the fire under control by late Thursday evening.

However, the fire reheated Friday afternoon. Winds in the area increased their intensity and caused the fire to continue spreading, jumping some established firebreaks.

The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office has closed Buie Driggers Road between Bryant Still Road and Arcola Road to provide firefighters and heavy equipment unobstructed access to the area. Drivers should avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Bulloch County Fire has deployed multiple firefighters, tankers and other apparatus to assist Georgia Forestry crews in containing the wildfire.

Homeowners in the surrounding area are encouraged to use caution and, when it is safe to do so, turn on exterior sprinklers around their homes.
