SCCPSS to Host Virtual Parent Information Sessions on Electronic Device Policy Updates
Savannah-Chatham County Public School System invites families to attend upcoming virtual parent information sessions focused on the district’s updated Electronic Device Policy for the 2026–2027 school year.
These sessions are designed to provide clarity on recent legislative changes, outline expectations for students, and give families a clear look at how the district will manage personal electronic devices during the school day.
What Families Can Expect
During each session, district leaders will:
- Explain the state laws driving these updates, including Georgia House Bills 340 and 1009
- Define what qualifies as a personal electronic device
- Share the district’s approach to student cellphone storage across all grade levels
- Review the progressive discipline process for repeated policy violations
Personal electronic devices include, but are not limited to:
- Cell phones (including smartphones)
- Smartwatches
- Walkie-talkies
- iPads and other smart tablets
- Smart glasses (branded or non-branded)
- Bluetooth headphones and AirPods
- Non-district-issued laptops and Chromebooks
Device Storage by Grade Band
To support a focused learning environment, SCCPSS will implement structured storage practices for student devices:
- Grades K–8: Devices will be stored in designated cellphone lockers with clear procedures for arrival, early dismissal, and end-of-day retrieval.
- Grades 9–12: Students will use locking Faraday pouches designed to secure devices throughout the school day, with processes in place for arrival, dismissal, and early checkout.

The sessions will be held virtually on May 14, 2026, with multiple time options to accommodate family schedules:
- 9:00–9:30 a.m.
- 11:00–11:30 a.m.
- 12:30–1:00 p.m.
- 2:30–3:00 p.m.
