Woodville-Tompkins Student Embarks on International Exchange Opportunity Through Metro Savannah Rotary

A Woodville-Tompkins High School student is preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience thanks to the support of a local community partner.

Peyton Owens will spend the next year in South Korea as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, an immersive international opportunity that allows students to live abroad while learning about new cultures, languages, and traditions.

Members of the Metro Savannah Rotary Club recently gathered with Peyton, her family, and friends to celebrate her upcoming departure. The event, held at Bewon Korean Restaurant in Savannah, gave attendees an opportunity to honor her achievement and learn more about the journey that lies ahead.

A standout scholar at Woodville-Tompkins High School, Peyton earned the highest GPA in her sophomore class and is actively involved in the National Honor Society and the school’s debate team. She has also completed two years of Korean language study, providing a strong foundation for her year abroad.

For Peyton, the exchange program is an opportunity to turn a dream into reality. She looks forward to experiencing South Korea’s rich history and culture firsthand, exploring historic landmarks, and connecting with students and families from around the world. She is especially excited to deepen her understanding of Korean culture through authentic local traditions and cuisine.

“This entire process has shaped me as a person,” Peyton said. “Rotary Youth Exchange has given me the chance to step outside my comfort zone and do things I once considered impossible.”

Metro Savannah Rotary’s commitment to global learning opportunities has made Peyton’s experience possible. Notably, Metro Savannah Rotary is the only club in Rotary District 6920 sending an outbound exchange student this year, highlighting the club’s dedication to investing in future leaders.

We couldn’t be more excited to follow her journey.”

Experiences like this help students develop independence, cultural awareness, and the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly connected world. As Peyton prepares to represent Savannah and Woodville-Tompkins High School abroad, she also serves as an example of what can happen when talented students are supported by a community that believes in their potential.
