City of Savannah Awarded Federal, State Funding for Stormwater Master Plan

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah has been awarded $2,202,817 in federal and state funding for a Stormwater Master Plan.

The total project cost, $2,591,550, includes a federal contribution of $1,943,662 through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and a State of Georgia contribution of $259,155, via Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA). The City of Savannah’s required local match is $388,733.

The grant funding will allow the City to expand its comprehensive, citywide stormwater master planning efforts, including flood modeling to evaluate the impacts of sea level rise; tidal influences; drainage deficiencies; system bottlenecks; and flood-prone areas throughout Savannah. Additionally, the stormwater master plan’s findings will help identify needs, prioritize projects, and guide the development of future capital improvement plans.

During the City’s recent SPLOST survey, residents identified flooding and stormwater management as their top concern and priority. This investment is another important step in response to citizens’ feedback, while strengthening Savannah’s long-term resilience.
