During Morehouse College’s 141st Start Workouts, Dr. Sonya M. Dennis, Partner Chair and Senior Citizen Aide Teacher of Computer Technology, was acknowledged with among the institution’s highest professors honors– the Vulcan Products Company Training Excellence Honor for the 2025– 2026 academic year. The award honors a professor that shows exceptional mentor, a commitment to academic quality, and a deep commitment to pupil success.

Dr. Dennis has actually served on the Morehouse faculty because 2006, bringing greater than 20 years of experience in computer science education to the classroom. Known for her dynamic training style and unwavering commitment to students, she has formed generations of future technologists through innovative rearing, mentorship, and leadership in educational program growth.

Her academic journey reflects both deepness and objective: she holds a Ph.D. in Info Systems Management from Walden University, a Master’s in Computer technology from Clark Atlanta University, and dual bachelor’s degrees from Savannah State University in Computer Technology (B.S.) and Computer System Engineering (A.S.).

Throughout her tenure at Morehouse, Dr. Dennis has played a vital duty in institutional solution, offering on many boards including the General Education Committee, the Institutional Evaluation Board, and both divisional and college-wide Curriculum and Educational Plan Boards. She is also an established researcher in the areas of artificial intelligence, STEM education, and undergraduate research study. Her work has actually amassed financing from remarkable organizations such as Boeing, the National Science Structure, and the HBCU-Data Scientific Research Consortium.

As she approaches 30 years of marriage to her university sweetie, Schuyler Dennis, she beams with pride over their two children: Schuyler II, a Morehouse graduate from the Course of 2023, and Summer, a scholar at Kennesaw State University. Dr. Dennis credit scores her moms and dads, Ernest and Letha Snelling, for instilling in her a structure of belief, household, and the ageless principle of dealing with others with kindness and regard.

In receiving the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Honor, Dr. Dennis joins a prominent group of Morehouse educators whose mentor transforms lives.
