Savannah State University News Update:

Savannah State University (SSU), Georgia’s first public Historically Black College and University (HBCU), is proud to announce the appointment of Brian Dawsey as Director of Mentorship. In this role, Dawsey will lead the university’s efforts to expand and strengthen mentorship opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni, reinforcing SSU’s commitment to student success and leadership development.

Brian Dawsey

Dawsey brings extensive experience in higher education, student engagement, and program development to SSU. He previously served as Director of Admissions, where he played a pivotal role in student recruitment, enrollment growth, and building strong relationships with prospective students and their families.

Known for his deep and active engagement both on and off campus, Dawsey has consistently worked to strengthen connections across the Tiger community and the broader Savannah region.

In his new role, he will lead efforts to enhance mentorship opportunities campus-wide, ensuring that every student benefits from meaningful guidance and support throughout their SSU journey.

“Mentorship is at the heart of the Savannah State experience,” said SSU President Dr. Jermaine Whirl. “Brian’s vision and expertise will help us scale our mentorship programs in meaningful ways, providing our students with the tools and support systems that prepare them to excel in their careers and communities.”

Under Dawsey’s leadership, SSU will strengthen the culture of mentorship that touches every corner of campus life. His appointment underscores SSU’s priority to elevate student success, while also deepening community connections and building lasting bridges between the classroom, the workplace, and the broader Savannah community.

“I am honored to serve Savannah State University in this capacity,” said Dawsey. “Mentorship is life-changing, and I look forward to building programs that empower our students to realize their fullest potential while also strengthening connections across the Tiger Nation.”
