ORANGEBURG, S.C.- Savannah State used the long ball on Tuesday afternoon in the 11-6 non-conference win over Voorhees.

Stephens hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, Hicks hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth and Sandoval added a two-run home run in the ninth.

The Tigers broke open a scoreless game in the top of the fourth with five runs.

Following Stephens’ home run over the left field fence, Hakem Smith and Jayden Clark both hit RBI singles for a 3-0 lead and a two-run double to left field by Sandoval increased the SSU lead to 5-0.

Voorhees rallied back with a run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull within one at 5-4.

Hicks’ two-run home run over the left field fence in the seventh gave SSU a 7-4 advantage but Voorhees added another run in the seventh to keep it close at 7-5.

Savannah State sent a pair of runners across home plate in the top of the eighth when Sandoval scored on an error by the center fielder and a single to left field by Jason Ramos sent home Hicks.

In the top of the ninth, Sandoval hit a two-run home run and Voorhees answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning to close out the scoring.

Sandoval finished the game with two doubles and a home run while scoring three times and driving in four runs.

Hicks had three RBI and scored twice and Smith chipped in a double and a single.
