Steel snap a five-game losing streak with a 90–74 win over Greensboro, earning their first victory of June.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. —

The Savannah Steel are back in the win column, snapping a five-game losing streak and earning their first victory of June with a 90–74 win over the Greensboro Groove at Enmarket Arena.

The Steel controlled the game with defense, holding a narrow two-point halftime lead before locking in after the break. Savannah held Greensboro to just 12 points in the third quarter on 25% shooting to take control of the matchup.

“I thought the defense was good,” head coach Coretta Brown said. “Lasha, with her length on Diamond Johnson, who is the league’s leading scorer, continues to be great for us.”

Johnson was limited to just four points as Savannah’s defense turned a close contest into a comfortable finish, leading for most of the second half.

The Steel’s bench was the difference, outscoring Greensboro’s reserves 52–8. Rookie Zee Spearman led the second unit with 19 points, providing a major lift in her continued adjustment to the professional level.

Coach Brown credited her team’s depth and said the group is still building chemistry after recent roster changes.

“We are the deepest team in the league,” Brown said. “Any given night, any of my guards could go for 30-plus… any of my post players could go for 30-plus. Having that depth is going to help us in the long run.”

Savannah still cleaned up areas of concern, including 14 turnovers and 11 offensive rebounds allowed, as Brown emphasized continued growth and execution.

With several new additions still integrating into the system, including rookie Ndjakalenga Mwenetanda, the Steel are still learning on the fly. Brown said the focus remains on simplifying the system and building chemistry through game action.

“The more we can continue to have practices and games like this and learn from each other, that chemistry will get better,” Brown said. “And once that chemistry gets better, it could be really scary.”

Savannah’s win marked a turning point for a young roster searching for consistency. The Steel return to action Friday at 7 p.m. for another matchup against the Greensboro Groove.
