July 19, 2025 – Savannah Technical College (Savannah Tech), the premier provider of career-ready technical education and workforce development in Coastal Georgia, celebrated the graduation of seven students from its Peace Officer Academy during a ceremony held at the Eckburg Auditorium on the Savannah Tech Main Campus, located at 5717 White Bluff Rd. These graduates successfully completed the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, making them eligible to serve as state-certified peace officers.

Each graduate underwent an intensive 18-week program combining classroom instruction in criminal justice principles with hands-on law enforcement training. This technical certificate equips students with the skills, knowledge, and ethical foundation needed to excel in careers across municipal, county, and state law enforcement agencies.

A key tradition at the Peace Officer Academy is the dedication of each graduating class to a fallen officer who made a significant impact in law enforcement. This cohort honored the memory of Deputy Sheriff Talmage Leon Tucker Jr. of the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office, who served his community with distinction for over two decades before his passing in 2021. Deputy Tucker was a highly respected member of law enforcement, leaving behind a legacy of service and leadership. The class honored Deputy Tucker’s family with a custom challenge coin as a token of respect and enduring gratitude.

Since its establishment in 2009, Savannah Technical College’s Peace Officer Academy has graduated more than 500 P.O.S.T.-certified officers and boasts a 99% placement rate. Six of the seven graduates from this cohort have already secured positions with local and state agencies, a testament to the program’s strong connections within the law enforcement community.

“Our Peace Officer Academy stands as a pillar of excellence in workforce development, preparing individuals to act with integrity and professionalism as they serve their communities,” said Dr. Ryan W. Foley, president of Savannah Technical College. “We are proud to celebrate the hard work and dedication of these graduates, knowing they will make a meaningful impact on public safety.”

The next cohort of the Peace Officer Academy begins training in August with ongoing enrollment opportunities available now. Prospective students interested in this highly respected program are encouraged to apply early. Financial assistance, including the HOPE Career Grant, is available to those who qualify.
