City of Savannah Launches New Online Flood Insurance Savings Resource

New Community Rating System webpage helps residents understand flood risk, insurance discounts, and flood preparedness

    SAVANNAH
    — The City of Savannah has launched a new online resource to help residents better understand flood risks, protect their property, and take advantage of potential savings on flood insurance.

The new Community Rating System (CRS) webpage serves as a central hub for information about the National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP) Community Rating System, a voluntary program that rewards communities for exceeding minimum federal floodplain management standards. Through the City’s participation in the program, many Savannah property owners may qualify for discounts on their flood insurance premiums.

The webpage provides residents with easy access to information about:

    • The Community Rating System and the benefits Savannah property owners
    • Flood insurance premium discounts available through City’s CRS participation
    • Floodplain maps and flood risk information.
    • Property protection measures to reduce flood damage
    • Flood preparedness resources and emergency information
    • Floodplain development requirements and permitting guidance
    • Additional resources for homeowners, businesses, and developers

Preparing for flooding begins with having the right information,” said City Manager Jay Melder. This new resource makes it easier for residents to understand their flood risk, learn how to protect their homes and businesses, and take advantage of available flood insurance savings.

The new webpage also supports the City’s ongoing efforts to improve public education and outreach while encouraging property owners to take proactive steps that strengthen community resilience.

Flooding can occur anywhere—not just in high-risk flood zones—and even a small amount of water can cause costly damage. City officials encourage all residents to understand their flood risk and consider flood insurance as an important part of protecting their property.

Residents may learn more and explore the new Community Rating System webpage today.
